Dr. Patel was born in Mombasa, Kenya. He received his B.S. and M.D. degree from the University of Mysore in India. He did an internship and residency in Family Medicine at The Medical Center in Columbus and was the Chief Resident in his final year of training. Following that, he established himself as a family physician in north Columbus. He is board certified in Family Medicine.

He is a member of the Muscogee County Medical Society and of the Medical Association of Georgia. He is a member of the American and Georgia Academy of Family Physicians.

Dr. Patel and his wife, Meena, have two daughters - Isita and Meghna - and one son named Nikhil. The Patel family is actively involved in travel, stamp and coin collecting, Indian gourmet cuisine and the Parent-Teacher Association for Brookstone Schools.
