Dr. Weatherstone is a native of Workington, England. He graduated from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne with a Bachelors in Medical Science and received his M.D. degree from University of Newcastle on Tyne. During his medical school years, he was involved in educational activities at The Medical Center in Columbus where he met his future wife, Pat whom he wed in England in 1981. He did an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at The University of South Alabama and his Gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is a Member of the American College of Physicians and the American Society for Gastroenterological Endoscopy. He started his private practice as a gastroenterologist in 1988 in Columbus. He is a founding partner of Horizon Physician Network.
He is Chairman of the Endoscopy Committee and is a Utilization Review Committee member at St. Francis Hospital. He is on the Performance Improvement Task force and the Blood Transfusion and Usage at St. Francis Hospital.

Dr. Weatherstone and his wife, Pat, have two girls, Ashley and Kimberly. The family is actively involved in swimming, horseback riding and activities at the St. Luke United Methodist Church.
